Russian Revolution Russian Revolution will have to beat an A class field to stay unbeaten

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy is happy for Russian Revolution to be flying under the radar ahead of the highly anticipated G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Despite winning all four of his starts ahead of Saturday’s Group One 1200m-sprint at Flemington, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Russian Revolution is at $10 in a star-studded field of colts headed by Group One winners Extreme Choice ($3) and Astern ($3.20).

“He just keeps flying under the radar does little Russian,” McEvoy said.

“He’s a nice colt in his own right and he’s unbeaten. He was a good winner up in Sydney last start against Astern and Capitalist and I really like the way he has been handled by Peter and Paul.”

Russian Revolution, who jumps from the outside gate, will be the Snowden team’s sole representative in what is regarded as a stallion-making race with Golden Slipper winner Capitalist ruled out on Friday with a stone bruise.

All has gone to plan with Russian Revolution and McEvoy was pleased with the way he handled himself in a straight-track work-out last week.

“He has come down here to Melbourne and he’s still nice and fresh and he really impressed me down the straight last Friday in that jump-out,” he said.

“There was Astern and Extreme Choice in there and Extreme Choice was right near me and I thought I was going just as good as him.

“We ran some quick time and I just like the way he acted and handled the straight. He moved really well down there and I’m pleased with his barrier draw .

“We’ve drawn to get a good spot without any horses on our outside. So I think it’s all setting up nicely where we can run really well. Obviously it’s a great race and another race I can’t wait to be a part of.

“The pressure is on tomorrow. It’s a stallion making race and we’re unbeaten.”

Russian Revolution won two late season two-year-old races in Sydney in June before winning the Vain Stakes in Melbourne in August.

He then led all the way in the Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick with Astern spotting him a big start before charging home to get within a head at the finish with Capitalist third.
