Royal Celebration is not ready for any great heights yet but trainer Ron Quinton is encouraged by the colt’s progress.

One of only two juveniles to race for the veteran horseman this season, the two-year-old attempts to build on a solid debut when he lines up in the #Theraces Plate (1200m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

A $35,000 yearling at the Inglis Classic sale, Royal Celebration pleased Quinton by finishing second to Invictus Spirit in an 1100m-maiden at Hawkesbury on April 17.

Stewards noted Royal Celebration was hampered near the 600m and blocked in the straight, but Quinton said the incidents were not excuses.

“There wasn’t much in it. In the straight he wouldn’t have beaten the winner. He got out early enough but he got a little bit lost,” he said.

Royal Celebration has bounced out of his first start well and again benefits from a plum draw when he jumps from barrier two with Andrew Adkins aboard.

“He seems good and if he’s taken improvement from the run, he ought to run well,” Quinton said.

Royal Celebration was quoted at $34 by the TAB on Tuesday with the market led by the Tim Martin-trained Danawi ($2.80).

Ljungberg is the only other two-year-old Quinton has taken to the races since August with the colt fifth in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic on December 21.

“I’ve got a few more but these are the only two that were ready to go,” he said.

At the other end of the experience spectrum, classy mare Daysee Doom returned to work on Monday ahead of the Group One Tatt’s Tiara (1350m) at Doomben on June 23.

“She’s had two-and-a-half weeks off and she’ll have a trial going into the trip to Brisbane,” Quinton said.

Stablemate Dixie Blossoms will continue in the spelling paddock ahead of a spring return.

The pair last raced in the Group One Queen Of The Turf (1600m) at Randwick on April 14, where Dixie Blossoms and Daysee Doom were sixth and 11th respectively behind Godolphin filly Alizee.
