New Zealand apprentice Rosie Myers has posted a double at Sandown only two days after notching her first win in Australia.

Myers, 24, landed Wednesday’s Race-Tech Hcp (1600m) on the Patrick Payne-trained Our Pride And Joy and backed up with victory in The Cove Hotel Hcp (1000m) on Locke’s Choice for trainer Ray Cleaver.

Myers won at Mornington’s city meeting on Monday on the Clive Balfour-trained Marotta.

Apprenticed to Mike Breslin at Palmerston North, Myers is on loan to Payne for three months after winning a scholarship to make the trip.

Her sister Kelly, 28, is also based with the Payne stable and has ridden a handful of country winners.

Their uncle is well-known New Zealand horseman Kevin Myers.

Rosie Myers reduced her claim from three kilos to two kilos with her Mornington success and is riding in stellar form.

In March she won her first Group One race on Midnight Oil in the New Zealand Oaks.

Myers took particular delight in winning for Payne on Our Pride And Joy who scored by 2-1/4 lengths from Maraaseem and Gracious Babe.

“She travelled beautiful in the run and she has won quite comfortably,” Myers said.

Payne praised Myers for her patience on Our Pride And Joy.

“I was really pleased the way Rosie rode her,” Payne said.

“Some jockeys can get into the trap of going a bit early in the straight on this Hillside track but she let the horse amble to the 300-metre mark and I thought it was a very smart ride.”

Payne said the three-year-old daughter of Canny Lad, who has won twice and been placed five times in eight starts, had “a lot of potential” and was only now starting to grow and fill out.

“She is starting to furnish now and I think she will be better as a four-year-old,” he said.

Locke’s Choice gave Myers her double when the gelding scored by a length from Sunday Wonder and Kenny Kid.
