Role Model has earned another chance at a stakes race after getting back near the form she showed before she came to Gai Waterhouse from New Zealand.
The mare tackles the $175,000 Listed Bernborough Handicap (1600m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Waterhouse has ramped up her Queensland summer team, sending Role Model and two-year-old Serena’s Pride to the Gold Coast last week with up to another six horses to arrive next week.
Role Model won twice in New Zealand and was second in the Group Two Wellington Guineas and Group Two Matamata Breeders Stakes.
Since joining Waterhouse, the now five-year-old has been consistent and was considered good enough to run in the 2014 Australian Oaks where was well beaten.
Role Model won in restricted class at Randwick earlier this year and has shown she is ready to live up to her kiwi form this campaign.
She won a trial in good style and was second first up at Rosehill before finishing third at Rosehill behind Happy Clapper who won last Saturday’s Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m).
“She is a well-bred mare and we are keen to get a black-type win beside her name,” stable representative Mark Newnham said.
“She isn’t eligible for the Magic Millions and there aren’t that many black-type races around for mares over 1600 metres at the moment.”
Waterhouse has booked Glen Boss, who is in Brisbane for the State of Origin jockeys’ series, for Role Model.
