Regan Bayliss will miss the chance to ride in his first Melbourne Cup unless he successfully appeals a careless riding suspension.
The 20-year-old has been booked for the Lindsay Park-trained Ventura Storm in the Cup next Tuesday.
Bayliss was outed for causing interference near the winning post of the final race at Bendigo on Wednesday aboard the winner Saddle The Sun.
Ventura Storm finished second to Winx in the Turnbull Stakes before running unplaced in the Caulfield Cup after which he was found to have a bruised heel.
Bayliss rode him in trackwork on Monday and said the horse moved freely.
As it stands, the jockeyโs penalty begins after Saturdayโs Derby meeting and ends after the Oaks meeting on Thursday.
Ventura Storm is a $34 chance in Melbourne Cup markets.
Regan Bayliss was given a 7 meeting suspension for interference approaching and after the winning post in the final race at Bendigo.
