Joe Pride has turned around the fortunes of four-year-old Recorrido and believes a stakes win is within reach after the mare notched her third win for her new stable at Rosehill on Saturday.
Pride only took over the training of Recorrido earlier this year and the daughter of Rubiton has won three of her six starts for the Warwick Farm trainer.
“I like this mare,” Pride said.
“I reckon she can win at Listed level.”
Recorrido was slowly away in Saturday’s Banjo Advertising Handicap (1200m) but it worked out well as she got plenty of cover and then unleashed a powerful finishing burst in the final 200 metres.
With Christian Reith aboard, Recorrido ($4.80) reeled in Mambo Flyer ($19) to win by half a length with another head back to Counterpane ($7.50) in third.
“What a difference it makes getting a bit of cover,” Pride said.
At Rosehill two weeks ago Recorrido sat outside the leader and was run down late by Rain Melody who started favourite in Saturday’s event but finished out of the placings.
“I didn’t think she (Recorrido) would be that far back today but she definitely needed cover and she switched off,” Pride said.
“I think she would have done the same job had she been up in third behind the leaders, it’s just a matter of getting her switched off because she was quite fierce the other day when racing outside the leader.
“I think this was a tougher race today but she has gone to another level.”
Reith told Pride the mare reared in the gates which made her come out a little slower than the rest of the field.
“She raced better that way, though,” the jockey said.
