Trainer Bryan Guy admitted he got special satisfaction out of the win of Platinum State at Doomben on Saturday.

Platinum State ($6.50) scored his first win in nine starts at Doomben when he held on to win the Novotel Brisbane Airport Handicap (1350m).

Guy had been planning to run Platinum State in the Ballina Cup on Friday.

“I must admit you get extra pleasure out a win when a plan comes off. A lot of plans aren’t successful so it is nice when you are proved right for a change,” Guy said.

“We could have gone to Ballina but I was worried about the wide barrier there.”

Winning apprentice Priscilla Schmidt continued the good run for Guy as she also won for him on Buon Auspoicio at Doomben on Wednesday.

Platinum State is now likely to step up to 1600m.

Sydney visitor Diamond Oasis ($1.75) was the second odds-on favourite to be beaten when runner-up to State of Wealth ($10) in the Class 6 Plate).

State of Wealth moved out in the straight but Diamond Oasis’s jockey Glen Colless was quick to dismiss any thoughts of a protest.

“I was going to win by lengths at the 200 metres but the winner kicked back. We never touched and there were no grounds for a protest,” Colless said.

Meanwhile, trainer Matt Dunn ended a run of outs in the city when Tiger By The Tale ($8) won the PFD Foods Handicap (1350m).

Dunn finished second in the Brisbane trainers’ premiership last season but Tiger By The Tale was his first metropolitan winner of the new season.

“Tiger By the Tale is still immature but we hope to take him to Sydney for some three year old races and that could be the making of him,” Dunn said.

Veteran trainer John Wallace continued his good run with jockey Chris Munce when Shapin Lady ($6) won the Jim Bean Handicap (1050m).
