Champion sprinter Takeover Target has been put down after injuring himself in a paddock accident.
The 15-year-old spent his retirement at his owner/trainer Joe Janiak’s Coffs Harbour property.
Janiak, a former taxi driver in Queanbeyan, gained worldwide recognition for his handling of the unlikely champion he bought for less than $1400.
Takeover Target won races in five states of Australia as well as England, Singapore and Japan and earned more than $6 million.
He was a regular visitor to Royal Ascot where he won the 2006 King’s Stand Stakes and was twice placed in the Golden Jubilee Stakes.
