New Zealand jockey Opie Bosson has suffered his second blow in a week with a suspension at Flemington.
Bosson’s best chance to win a Melbourne Cup, Mongolian Khan, has been withdrawn because of a bout of colic for which the Caulfield Cup winner is still being treated.
He will now miss his chance at another Group One win on Mongolian Khan’s stablemate Turn Me Loose in next week’s Emirates Stakes.
The rider pleaded guilty to shifting in on eventual fourth-placed Charmed Harmony in the Group Three Guvera Stakes causing a chain reaction with runner-up San Diego the end recipient.
Turn Me Loose’s co-trainer Murray Baker said he had no idea who would ride but he expected he would not have trouble getting a jockey.
Bosson’s suspension starts on Sunday and ends the following Monday.
