A fully recovered and thoroughly pampered Green Moon has celebrated his Melbourne Cup victory with a snack from the $175,000 trophy he won at Flemington.
Owners Lloyd Williams and his son Nick proudly posed with their stayer at their training complex north of Melbourne on Wednesday, reliving the momentous victory and filling the famous three-handled cup with grass for the star of their stable.
Lloyd Williams revealed it would be the only Melbourne Cup Green Moon is likely to win.
He said the horse would target shorter races in the future and would race exclusively in Australia.
“I’d like to see him race on a bit,” Williams said.
“He won’t be going to stud just yet.
“He’ll get too much weight in the Cup after this so I’d rather set him for 2000 or 2400 metre races at set weights.”
While Green Moon won’t be chasing any more Cups, his owner has every intention of increasing his tally of four.
“I won’t be stopping. I’ve got more Melbourne Cups to win,” Williams said.
