Trainer Leon Corstens has declared Mosheen a superior juvenile to his only Golden Slipper runner as he sweats on the Fastnet Rock filly getting a start in the race.

Mosheen is borderline to make Saturday’s final field which is declared on Tuesday and as a precaution Corstens has nominated her for a $70,000 Moonee Valley event.

Corstens is confident that Mosheen is up to a crack at the $3.5 million Slipper after his only previous runner in the race, Siennas Fury finished a creditable eighth to Sebring in 2008.

“She’s been a nice filly from day one and she is helluva lot better than her (Siennas Fury),” Corstens said.

Danny Nikolic will ride Mosheen in the Golden Slipper after he scored on her at only start in a five-horse race at Caulfield on March 19.

While it was only a narrow winning margin over Sharnee Rose, Corstens sees a lot of upside in the filly.

“The part I liked about her win was that towards the end of the race she really stuck her neck out,” Corstens said.

“I have nominated her at Moonee Valley just in case she doesn’t get a run in the Slipper, but really I couldn’t be happier with her,” Corstens said.

“Her work has been good and I’m lucky enough to have my own grass track where I can work her this way or the Sydney way.

“She’s had plenty of education as far as that goes and she seems to be quite a good professional the way she goes about it.

“It is a big step for her but you have got to be in it to win it.”

Slipper success would be especially rewarding for Corstens who trains at Kerrigail Farm, 30 minutes north of Melbourne airport which was the vision of Phil Sly, part-owner of Mosheen.

“Phil’s never had a horse good enough for a Golden Slipper so he is very excited and very keen to go,” Corstens said.

“We will know tomorrow which way we are going but if it looks like she will get a run she will leave on Thursday,” Corstens said.

A big entry of 23 two-year-olds are nominated for Moonee Valley on Saturday including outstanding Sandown debut winner City Of Song, who was a luckless third to Mosheen at Caulfield.

Owner and successful breeder Bob Scarborough has two unraced Redoute’s Choice fillies entered, Angelmouse and Hurriyet, who are both trained by Peter Moody and were first and third in the same Cranbourne barrier trial on March 21.

Hurriyet was a $660,000 yearling and is from the same family as Cronus and Pravda while Angelmouse is part of the famous Eight Carat family and was passed in at $375,000 as yearling.

Mark Kavanagh has entered Fastnet Rock colt Gonna Be A Rokstar for his first start after he was bought for $300,000 as a yearling.
