Robert Smerdon says Golden Slipper runner-up Mosheen is forward enough for Saturday’s Quezette Stakes at Caulfield which kicks off her spring campaign aimed at the Thousand Guineas.

Formerly with Leon Corstens, Mosheen created a huge impression when she ran second at 100-1 to star colt Sepoy in the Golden Slipper after winning over 1000m at Caulfield on debut.

Managing owner Phil Sly transferred the daughter of Fastnet Rock to Smerdon for her current preparation.

“She’s done a fair bit towards this first-up run,” Smerdon said.

“She’s ready to be very competitive but we’re hoping she just gets better and more effective out to a middle distance later in the spring, the Thousand Guineas being her ultimate aim.

“And if she can get beyond that distance she’ll head on towards races like the Oaks.”

Connections have also nominated Mosheen for the Cox Plate.

“It’s another dream isn’t it,” Smerdon said.

Danny Nikolic, who has ridden Mosheen in both of her starts, retains the mount in Saturday’s Listed 1100m event in which the filly drew barrier one in the 13-horse field.

“Danny rode her as a two-year-old and he stays on her for the preparation,” Smerdon, who has taken the blinkers and lugging bit off the filly, said.

Mosheen is $3.50 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Satin Shoes ($4.80), Glissade ($5.50), Metonymy ($8.50), Song Of The Bell ($9) with City Of Song at $10 and Cute Emily at $12.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Golden Slipper winner Sepoy when he makes his reappearance in the Vain Stakes (1100m) in which he is the dominant $1.35 favourite.

Assistant trainer Paul Snowden said the Elusive Quality colt was fit and ready to go to the races again.

“We never want to declare anything but he is certainly going to be turned out on Saturday in great shape,” he said.

“Physically he’s a much more mature horse.

“He has strengthened up and grown a lot more and is just a lot more laid-back in himself.
“He is still as sharp as he ever was on the track.”

Sepoy’s main spring goal is the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby Day but a clash with unbeaten champion Black Caviar hasn’t been ruled out.

“We will have to wait and see,” Snowden said.

Kerrin McEvoy, who rode Sepoy in his most serious piece of work this preparation at Flemington on Tuesday, again rides the handsome chestnut who drew barrier six in the 10-horse field.

African Pulse is second pick in the betting at $7 ahead of Golden Archer ($8.50) and Delago’s Lad ($17) with Grand Britannia and Snitzem at $26.
