This Spring Carnival could be Michelle Payne's last
Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne has indicated that this Spring Carnival may be her last in the saddle.
Speaking at Sunday night’s Scobie Breasley Medal count Payne said she wants to make the most of the upcoming Spring Carnival as it may be her as a jockey.
“I might only have this spring left (as a rider),” Payne said.
“It’s going to be hard to walk away but I’m aiming at riding in the spring carnival,”
Payne was granted a dual licence in 2016 which allows her to ride and train horses in Victoria and plans to focus on training heading into the future.
“On the bright side, I can’t wait to knuckle down and train the horses I have because that’s what we have been working towards,” Payne said.
Payne will also join Channel 7’s commentary team for the upcoming Spring Carnival.
Michelle Payne is not booked to ride any horse in the 2017 Melbourne Cup as of yet.
