Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michael Rodd has landed a short-term Singapore Turf Club contract.
Melbourne-based Rodd will ride in Singapore for three months from January 1, the STC announced on Thursday.
It will be the 32-year-old’s second try at overseas racing in a 14-year career that has netted the jockey 30 Group One wins, including the 2007 Melbourne Cup with Efficient.
Rodd rode in Hong Kong for 18 months before returning to Australia to set up in Melbourne in 2006 where he has established himself as one of Australia’s best riders.
Confirmation of a Singapore contract comes as Rodd finds himself riding one of the brightest young stars in Australian racing.
Rodd linked with Rich Enuff for the first time to win the Danehill Stakes before the colt went to another level for him in a Caulfield Guineas Prelude victory last Sunday.
Rich Enuff is certain to start a warm favourite to win the $1 million Caulfield Guineas on Saturday week.
A more pressing ride for Rodd will be veteran galloper Happy Trails in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
On a Cox Plate path, Happy Trails is one of the Turnbull favourites after his narrow defeat in the Underwood Stakes.
