Melbourne Cup winning trainer and jockey Darren Weir and Michelle Payne will go their separate ways with post Melbourne Cup commitments for the now famous female jockey the cause of the issue.
When asked about the split trainer Darren Weir told the Daily Telegraph “All’s good, there’s no drama, but the people who do the work are the people who get the rides around here — simple as that,’’ “I chop and change riders all the time. I have no stable rider. Michelle’s no different than the others.’’
Despite Michelle’s commitments outside of race riding she will continue to pilot last years Melbourne Cup winner in future races with owner John Richards saying “As far as I’m concerned everything remains the same, we choose who rides Prince Of Penzance, not the trainer.’’
