The 2014 Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist has been retired to stand at stud in Germany.
Protectionist became a house hold name in Australia after winning the $6.2m Melbourne Cup before two disappointing preparations post his Cup win saw him return to Germany.
Protectionist had his final run in the Canadian International where he finished last.
The Melbourne Cup winner amassed over $4million in career earnings and will stand in Germany with a possibility to shuttle to Australia.
