Comeback jockey Matthew Allen will renew acquaintances with Danzylum in the Group Three Victoria Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday.

Allen has a good record on the Robbie Griffiths-trained galloper, winning five races on him including victories at Flemington and Caulfield.

He last rode Danzylum in a race when he finished eighth to King Carnage over 1200m at Ballarat on November 21 last year.

But five days later Allen suffered a fractured skull when another Griffiths-trained horse, Super Swell, knuckled badly on jumping away and dislodged him in a race at Mornington.

Allen spent four months on the sidelines before resuming his career with a win at Mornington on Van Halo, also prepared by Griffiths, at his first ride back on April 1.

“Matt has had five race rides since he’s been back and has also ridden in a lot of trials,” Allen’s manager Phillip Roost said.

“He has a good record on Danzylum and is looking forward to riding him on Saturday.”

Since Danzylum’s unplaced run at Ballarat he has raced nine times for three wins, with Luke Currie aboard on each occasion.

The Danzero seven-year-old won at his first start since Ballarat over 1440m at Caulfield on December 4 and three starts later made it back-to-back victories in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on January 15.

The gelding made it two straight with a win in the Listed John Dillon Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield 11 days later.

Griffiths then stepped him up to Group One company for the second time and he finished fourth to Typhoon Tracy in the CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, a race in which he also finished fourth to Typhoon Tracy the previous year.

Three starts back Danzylum ran third to Launay and Orbit Express in the Listed TAB 50th Birthday Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 5 before his form tapered off with unplaced 1400m efforts at Flemington and Caulfield.

But Griffiths has freshened him up with a month’s break since his latest appearance on March 19.

Danzylum has drawn barrier one in the 12-horse field with the other recognised on-pacer in the field Zedi Knight drawn in two.

Orbit Express, who has drawn the outside barrier, won the race last year with 54.5kg and has been asked to carry equal topweight of 58kg on Saturday along with Sound Journey and Zedi Knight.
