In-form Moruya trainer John Marzol describes four-year-old Possess as being just like a hyperactive child.
“He can be a lunatic, very hard to handle,” he said.
“He’s full on, full on all the time.
“It’s just his nature.”
Marzol hopes the Belong To Me gelding’s antics can be tempered when he steps up to 1400m in the Boss Operational Security Service Class 3 Hcp at Wagga on Saturday.
The increased distance, Marzol admits, is somewhat experimental.
“He’s been hitting the line good,” Marzol, who scored with Code Word at Canterbury on Wednesday, said.
“He had one go at 1400 metres previously and failed but he was probably ridden a bit too close then.”
Two starts back Possess scored over 1200m in a Class 2 event at the Sapphire Coast on May 1 before finishing 1-1/4-lengths fourth to Ambergris over 1150m at Leeton on May 14.
“The plan is to try and ride Possess a bit quieter,” Marzol said.
“Hopefully he will settle better off the pace a bit.
“I’ve tried a couple of different things with him, changed things around.
“We’re trying the 1400 metres again and see what happens.”
Possess will be ridden by Tim Phillips and carries 58.5kg from barrier five.
The winner of three races and placed four times from 16 starts, Marzol has been happy with Possess’ progress.
The trainer also has bright prospects with Carefully Chosen in the Arlington Park Racing Benchmark 55 Hcp (1000m).
“A professional placegetter,” Marzol said.
“Thank God she finally broke through last start.”
The six-year-old mare has recorded 18 placings from 40 starts, last time winning a 920m scamper on her home track on May 21 to record her third career win.
Carefully Chosen will be ridden by three-kilogram claimer Annelise King.
