Queensland mare Risk Aversion will make a cameo appearance during the Sydney spring carnival but more ambitious goals await her in the autumn.
Trainer Mick Lakey does not want to over-burden Risk Aversion during the spring but has confirmed she will make a brief appearance in Sydney towards the latter part of the carnival.
“I won’t be targeting any of the big races for her in Sydney but there’s a Listed race at Randwick for mares that she can run in towards the end of the carnival,” Lakey said.
“The Queen Of The Turf and Coolmore Classic are the races I’ll be aiming her at in the autumn.
“For that reason, I don’t want to push her too hard during the spring.”
Risk Aversion will spell for another fortnight before returning to Lakey’s Deagon stable.
“She’ll have one or two races in Brisbane when she kicks off next campaign before we look at the Sydney option with her,” he said.
The daughter of Encosta De Lago has won five races from only 10 starts. Her latest appearance was a creditable sixth to Pear Tart in the Group One Tatt’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 23.
“It was an exceptional run that day and with any luck at all she finishes in the placings,” Lakey said.
“She was a long way back on the home turn but was getting home better than anything else on a day when it was hard to make up ground.”
The mare’s autumn/winter campaign was interrupted by wet tracks which are not to her liking.
A half-sister to Group One placegetter Shania Dane, Risk Aversion is owned by Gold Coast businessman John Hutchins who raced 2009 Coolmore Classic winner Typhoon Tracy.
