A study of the entries will determine which race Almoonqith contests at Sandown.

The David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained stayer has been nominated for the Group Two Zipping Classic and Listed Sandown Cup on Saturday.

The winner of the Geelong Cup last month, Almoonqith was never in contention when 18th behind Prince Of Penzance in the Melbourne Cup.

“He got back in the field and never got a crack at them,” Hayes said.

“He couldn’t have had an easier run.”

Almoonqith is one of 22 nominations in the 3200m-Sandown Cup with fellow Melbourne Cup contestants Grand Marshal, Sertorius and The Offer among the entries along with Saturday’s impressive Queen’s Cup winner Dandino.

Almoonqith’s stablemate Rising Romance will be racing for a start in next month’s Hong Kong Cup in the Zipping Classic, renamed after the Lloyd Williams-owned stayer who won the Sandown Classic on four straight occasions.

Rising Romance ran second in two Group One races at Flemington, the latest behind Gailo Chop in the Mackinnon Stakes on Derby Day, but in between was unplaced in the Turnbull Stakes and Caulfield Cup.

“I’ll have a chat with the owners on whether they want to run her and then come back in distance in Hong Kong,” Hayes said.

“She ran so well on the back-up from the Caulfield Cup to the Mackinnon and she’ll have a month back to the big race over there.”

The Lindsay Park pair are two of 13 nominations for the Zipping Classic with Dandino and Sertorius doubly engaged while other entries include Kirramosa, Tall Ships and Who Shot Thebarman.

Hayes and Dabernig, who won the Sandown Guineas last year with Petrology, have He’s Our Rokki and Flying Light entered for this year’s Group Two contest.

The pair finished fourth and sixth respectively in the Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington at their last starts with Hayes saying track bias ended their hopes.
