Missrock could join stablemate Jaws Of Steel in a first-up assault on the Danehill Stakes at Flemington.

Trainer Robbie Laing planned to start Missrock’s spring campaign in Saturday’s Cap D’Antibes Stakes but is having second thoughts.

“It was always the intention to run her in the Cap D’Antibes but I probably made the fatal mistake of entering her for both,” Laing said.

“I don’t know which is the weakest race now.

“The Danehill is of $200,000 and the fillies $120,000 but there’s a lot of picket fences of wins in the fillies race.”

Laing said he would discuss the pros and cons of both races with owner Ray Montague.

But Laing is sure where Missrock will head after Saturday.

He has locked in the Thousand Guineas Prelude on September 24 and next month’s Thousand Guineas before the Wakeful Stakes at Flemington on October 29.

“Hopefully there’ll be a lot of petrol left in the tank,” Laing said.

Missrock hasn’t raced since winning the Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick, her only autumn start after she fractured her pelvis at Sandown last November.

She enjoyed a break in the warmer NSW climate following the Percy Sykes and has had a faultless lead-up to Saturday.

“She had a trial on Monday,” Laing said.

“It was a very similar trial to the one she had before she won in Sydney.”

Jaws Of Steel hasn’t raced since running last in the J J Atkins Stakes at Eagle Farm in June.

Laing said the gelding suffered an eye injury in that race.

“He was treated for a week after the race,” Laing said.

“He then had six weeks in the paddock with a bit of pre-training in the Queensland sun before coming home,” Laing said.

All going well, Laing will aim Jaws Of Steel at Caulfield Guineas Prelude on September 24 and will let that run decide whether to press on to the Caulfield Guineas two weeks later.
