Queensland mare KRONE (Eurozone – Sift landing) moved to the middle of the track as they turned for home and just flew down the outside to knock over a smart field of NSW mares in the Gr 2 Guy Walter Stakes worth $200,000 over 1400m.
And in doing so, will now be set for the Gr 1 Coolmore over 1500m on 13 March.
Tony Gollan, Brisbane’s leading trainer, prepares her and he came down to be with her at Randwick.
“I was hoping for more rain to be honest because she loves it wet, but there was enough there for her and now that she has won, it looks like a well orchestrated plan,” the trainer said with a laugh.
“She’s a nice fit mare and hopefully she will go on and have a good go at the Gr 1 Coolmore Classic.
“We thought we’d have a crack at this firstly to see if she is up to the grade. Looks like she is.”
Krone sat back while all the smart NSW mares were battling away with the pace.
Sweet Deal, the $3.30 fav led but was run over in the straight looking like she didn’t want to let down on the damp track.
Both placegetters, TRICKY GAL Magic Albert – Velocity Gal) and ICE BATH (Sacred Falls – Fabulist) each ran enormous races, especially the 3rd mare who was forced to race three deep all the way.
Bell View Park Stud sold the winner as a weanling to Louise Charlton for $30,000.
She in turn thought about it, but sold her as a yearling for $60,000 to Rosemont Stud.
They in turn got her ready and she was sold at the 2YOs In Training Sale for $120,000, to the Roll The Dice racing syndicate who sold a share back to Rosemont Stud.
Since then, she has won five races and….$1,076,650 in prize money.
