Doubt has been cast over one of the key Melbourne Cup runners less than a week out from the race after undergoing a veterinary examination.
Oceanex was inspected by Racing Victoria vet Dr Grace Forbes on Thursday and was reportedly not 100 percent happy with her action.
Co-trainer Mick Price told RSN that they had changed the shoes on Oceanex in hope it’s beneficial for the mare who will be re-inspected by vets on Friday.
“We had a 7.15am trot up with Dr Grace Frobes, Racing Victoria vet this morning, and Oceanex is not 100 per cent in the action. We think itβs a little bit foot related,” Price told RSN.
“I came back in from being out in the middle, we trotted her up with Dave Shepherd, who has been Oceanex’s vet since she was a yearling and we both agree she’s not 100 per cent in the action.
“We are going to change the shoes on her and there is another inspection that will happen lunch time tomorrow.
Oceanex, currently rated as a $61 chance, is guaranteed a start in the Melbourne Cup 2020 after her win in the ballot exempt The Andrew Ramsden.
