The Everest winning rider, Kerrin McEvoy, promised his kids he’d buy them a pool if he won the race.
That was four years ago, just days before he climbed aboard Redzel in the inaugural The Everest.
He won that, the kids said, “so, Dad when are we getting the pool?”
He smiled at them. But, it didn’t happen.
A year later, same promise, same result, same stalling tactics.
Fortunately, kids are resilient. When they are young, as Kerrin’s four kids still are, they think their father is a superman. Kinda like “great idea, we’ll do it next year.” They can’t wait until next year….but one day out of genuine curiosity, they ask, Dad…how far away is next year?”
Hmmm, Kerrin.
Even his wife Kathy, who loves her man to death, wanted to know what would happen if you won again. “I spoke to him and he said, well, maybe a new house with a pool.”
With that in mind, after he won on Classique Legend on Saturday, not surprisingly, the kids spoke up again.
Son Jake said, “he promised us a pool and we want one now. Because he promised.”
Their patience is waning Kerrin. According to Jake, he still hasn’t delivered.
But now it’s out there on the record: Both Kathy and he kids are agitating for him to man up and live up to his promise.
This may well be the best summer the young McEvoys have ever experienced.
