Jamie Kah partners Harlem in Saturday's Group Two PB Lawrence Stakes

A week after ticking off a bucket list item, jockey Jamie Kah is back at Caulfield to ride one of her favourite racehorses.

Kah partners Harlem in Saturday’s feature, the Group Two PB Lawrence Stakes at weight-for-age.

The Lindsay Park-trained Harlem is the horse which provided her with a breakthrough Group One win.

The ride comes a week after she competed in the Shergar Cup at Ascot, a dream finally achieved to ride competitively in the UK.

“I did a bit of trackwork there a few years ago and loved it, loved the horses and all the racing,” Kah said.

“It was a great experience to finally ride overseas, especially at Ascot.

“What an opportunity.”

Kah had an adrenaline rush when in contention for a 1000m sprint before finishing second, the best of her five rides at Ascot.

Back at Caulfield on Saturday, Kah says there is more to Harlem than just providing her first Group One win, the Australian Cup at Flemington in March.

“He’s such a dude of a horse,” she said.

“I rode him at his last start in Sydney against Winx and the crowd was roaring and the ground was literally shaking.

“But he was fast asleep, so relaxed.

“He’s so cool and just a nice horse to ride.”

Acknowledging the 1400m journey will be too short, Kah has been impressed by Harlem’s trackwork.

“I galloped him Wednesday morning and he feels like a two-year-old bouncing around again,” she said.

“No doubt he’ll need further than this weekend but he’ll run well, he’s working like a sprinter at the moment.”

Another potential spring ride for Kah is imported galloper Douglas Macarthur who runs in the Nitto Denko Handicap for part-owners Lloyd and Nick Williams.

Douglas Macarthur is having his first run since finishing ninth in the English St Leger in September 2017.

Second in that race was the world’s highest-rated horse Crystal Ocean and third was Stradivarius, the best-rated world staye.

The fourth placegetter was Rekindling, the 2017 Melbourne Cup winner.

“My manager is really impressed with his form and the horses that have beaten him have gone on,” Kah said.

“All going well, and if he runs well, hopefully I can stick with him.

“Coming into the spring they’re a good team to be aligned with.”
