Jockey James McDonald will not be able to return to race riding until May next year after his appeal to try and reduce the length of the ban failed.
McDonald was handed an 18-month disqualification for a betting offence last December after admitting he placed a $1000 bet on a horse he rode.
McDonaldโs disqualification expires on May 15, 2018.
