Today is a significant day for women.
It is International Women’s Day and the Victorian Wakefield Club has just announced superstar jockey Jamie Kah as its annual Lady Of Racing 2021 champion.
Which just adds another bow to the package that is Jamie Kah, a now world force in horse racing.
“To be named Lady Of Racing is amazing considering there are so many amazing females out there,” said Kah.
“I am very humbled. As I was growing up I looked up to Clare Lindop. She paved the way for female jockeys and was very tough.”
Kah said that if any females wanting to get into the industry, they should.
“It’s a 24, 7 job but there is no job like it. You have to do the hard yards but when you do, it is rewarding.”
When asked what races she still wants to win, the South Australian native rider, smiled and said part what you would expect, and part what you wouldn’t.
“I’d love to win the Victorian Premiership, and of course one of the majors, but I really would like to win either the Adelaide Cup or the Robert Sangster. I’d love to win one of those Gr 1s in front of my family and friends in Adelaide.”
At present, Kah does lead the Victorian Premiership ladder.
Congrats Jamie. Worthy recipient.
