Victoria’s leading apprentice Jake Noonan looks set to continue on his winning way at Caulfield on Saturday when he has a full book of eight rides.
Fresh from riding five metropolitan winners over 24 hours last weekend including a treble at Caulfield last Saturday, he has four rides for the strong Peter Moody stable where he is currently on loan.
One of the Moody mounts is the highly-promising two-year-old filly Plucky Belle, the shortest-priced favourite of the meeting at $1.60 in the BMW Hcp (1200m) with TAB Sportsbet.
The Mossman filly flashed home to finish a close fourth to Triple Asset in the Group Three Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) at her only start to date at Flemington on March 12.
The stable’s number one rider Luke Nolen was aboard that day but with him riding at the important Morphettville meeting on Saturday, Noonan has been entrusted with the mount.
Plucky Belle is a half-sister to recent Group One Randwick Guineas placegetter Light Brigade.
Noonan, sixth in the Melbourne jockeys’ premiership with 28 wins so far this season and eighth in Victoria with 67, said he enjoys riding the Moody horses.
“You just get on them and you get such a nice feel,” he said.
“Even the horses that lack a bit of ability they always give you a nice feel in their work and you are always confident that on their work they can go to the races and be competitive.
“All his horses go to the races and they are usually thereabouts.
“The work they’re doing you know they are rock-hard fit and always feeling well and fresh in themselves.
“They do a lot of work but at the same time they never seem too dour.
“He doesn’t really train them long, he likes it short and sharp, but they do a lot of work during the week and the horses are so happy at work.”
Noonan’s other rides for the Moody stable are Flokkati ($8.50) in the Hayman Island Hcp (1100m), Sayahailmary ($4.20) in the Royal Tivoli Jewellers Cup (1400m) and Eureka Jack ($26) in the Rokk Ebony Cup (2000m).
He has two rides for his father, Mornington trainer Tony Noonan, in Buccellati ($26) in the Cath White Memorial Hcp (1600m) and last-start Stony Creek Cup winner Ma Shang in the Visvanathan Memorial Plate (2000m).
Noonan will also ride the Greg Eurell-trained Misty Blue ($6) in the Betfair Hcp (1200m) and the Mick Price-trained Marconi ($19) in the Pink Ribbon Cup (1200m).
