Despite two outstanding rides for wins at Flemington on Oaks day, and a superb ride on Montefilia to grab 3rd in the Gr 1 Oaks, champion jockey Hugh Bowman has once again fallen foul of the Victorian stewards.
And it was one of his winning rides that caused them to get upset with him.
He rode ROCHA CLOCK ( Pierro-Rocha) to win the inaugural running of the $500,000 Inglis Bracelet, and she was 2nd last turning for home.
Bowman brought her to the outside and she came home hard, full of running under a perfectly timed ride.
But the stewards didn’t like what Bowman did in the last 200m.
He was riding his mount out hard for owners and punters and the horse started to tire in the last little bit. She wobbled inwards and shortened up the two horses on her inside.
Enough it seems to have him suspended for 11 meetings.
In fairness to Bowman, his mount had surged past the runners in question and they weren’t coming back on him.
