Today’s Gunbower Cup meeting has been transferred to Echuca after an inspection on Friday deemed the track unsuitable for racing.
The standard pre-meeting flood irrigation resulted in a number of sections failing to dry sufficiently despite the best efforts of the Gunbower Racing Club.
“As you can see we do whatever it takes to make our track the best it can be and that includes having a helicopter hovering for 2 hours to try and dry any patches that arenโt up to scratch.” Gunbower Racing Club said on Facebook.
“Unfortunately, this has not been enough and we cannot have any horses run around our track tomorrow.”
While race times remain the same it’s important to note that Races 1, 5 and 6 (Gunbower Gold Cup) have been reduced from 1800m to 1600m.
A phantom meeting will go ahead at the Gunbower course with races to be shown on the big screens.
Meanwhile, 54mm of rainfall in the past 48 hours has resulted in today’s scheduled Kembla Grange meeting being postponed.
