South Australian-trained stayer Gris Caro is expected to be scratched from the Caulfield Cup.
Trainer Jake Stephens has told Racing Victoria stewards Gris Caro is lame in the off-fore leg.
The horse will undergo a veterinary examination later on Thursday.
“Trainer has advised highly unlikely will start in Caulfield Cup,” a stewards’ notification said.
Should Gris Caro be scratched, it will pave the way for the Peter Moody-trained Brambles, the first emergency, to gain a start.
Brambles, winner of the 2012 Group One Queensland Derby, finished third to Caulfield Cup favourite Lucia Valentina in the Group One Turnbull Stakes last start with his stablemate Lidari second.
