Mack Griffith trains a small team of horses as a hobby, yet two of them are set to return to racing at Randwick on Saturday.

Griffith, who has three horses to his name, has Rule The World and Amicus Curiaeย engaged on the 10-race card this weekend.

Amicus Curiae is nominated for the TAB Highway Handicap (1200m) and has trialled twice in preparation for Saturday.

The three-year-old has only had six starts, including the CDRA Country Championships qualifier, and has also been tested in provincial and Highway grade.

Griffith said the son of Choisir has come back well since targeting the Country Championships.

“Last preparation he was pretty much aimed at the Country Championships and it was probably still a bit too soon for him,” he said.

“But when the race is on in your own backyard you’ve got to have a throw at the stumps.

“He’s a bit unknown on the wet tracks, he’s had one start on a wet track before but he was first-up without a trial.

“This time we’ve put the blinkers on him and he trialled a lot better.

“He’s going into a very hot little Highway, but he’s going well too.”

Griffith currently works for Gooree Park and trains from the property on the side.

Rule The World, who is nominated for the Benchmark 88 Handicap (1400m), was born and raised at Gooree Park, before racing for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

The four-year-old is now under Griffith’s care at the property, after finishing fifth at Sandown in March.

Griffith said he has always had his eye on the son of Hallowed Crown.

“I’ve had the horse and watched him ever since he was a yearling and I’ve always liked him,” he said.

“When he became available, I got a few clients together and bought him.

“He’s trained out of Gooree still where he’s spent most of his life. Not much has changed for him.

“He obviously trialled okay, but there’s a bit of a difference in class from what he’s trialled against and the horses he’s racing against on Saturday. But he did do it quite easily.”
