Tommy Berry had a memorable Golden Slipper day on the track with a Group One double but his luck ran out in the stewards’ room.
The gifted rider took out the feature race aboard Stay Inside and the Rosehill Guineas aboard Mo’Unga but the latter came at a cost with Berry fined $5000 and issued a suspension for overuse of the whip on the three-year-old.
He will miss the next two Saturdays, which include the first day of The Championships at Randwick on April 10.
James Mcdonald fell foul of stewards for breaching the same rule and was fined $4000 for his over zealousness with the stick on Guineas runner-up Sky Lab.
The news was even worse for Nash Rawiller, who will miss the remainder of the Sydney autumn carnival through suspension.
Already on the sidelines for next weekend’s Tancred Stakes card due to a previous penalty, Rawiller was rubbed out until April 29 for causing interference on Four Moves Ahead in the Golden Slipper and on Avilius in the George Ryder Stakes.
He won’t ride again on a Saturday until the stand-alone Hawkesbury program on May 1.
