An irate Glyn Schofield declared he would definitely appeal a double suspension that would keep him out for three weeks.
Schofield bagged a winning double at Saturday’s Rosehill meeting including the Listed Civic Stakes on Little Surfer Girl but was fuming after stewards issued two separate suspensions totalling 10 meetings.
The jockey copped eight meetings for careless riding aboard Kerchings in the Perfection Fresh Handicap (1350m) in which he also lost his third placing on protest.
Stewards also deemed a suspension of six meetings for careless riding aboard Sikka in the Harris Farm Handicap (1100m) but reduced that penalty to two meetings.
Schofield pleaded guilty to shifting out on Sikka in the straight but pleaded not guilty to a careless riding charge on Kerchings.
“I’m seeing red at the moment to be honest,” Schofield said after hearing his penalty.
“I cannot believe you can find me guilty (of careless riding) on Kerchings. I cannot fathom that.”
Stewards deemed Schofield had directed Kerchings to the outside of eventual winner Testarhythm in the Perfection Fresh Handicap when there was insufficient room between Testarhythm and Coup Ay Tee, forcing Coup Ay Tee to be checked inside the final 100 metres.
Coup Ay Tee was promoted to third after Nash Rawiller’s protest was upheld.
Schofield vigorously defended his actions on Kerchings, claiming he was dictated to by Testarhythm moving in and then out in the straight.
His suspension is due to start after next Saturday’s meeting with the jockey free to return on Friday, July 29.
