He wasn’t “big and fat” enough for buyers at the Easter yearling sales but Glenall is proving them all wrong with his potential to win a Group race.

Two years ago Turangga Farm manager Stuart Ramsey had to return home with the Redoute’s Choice colt after he was overlooked at Newmarket.

“He was a November foal, backward compared with all the others and all the experts. If they’re not big and fat… they don’t buy it” Ramsey said.

“They all think we keep our best but we keep the ones we can’t bloody sell.”

It was the same year Turangga Farm sold War Hero to James Harron for $1.6 million.

War Hero has made his way back to Ramsey after a stint with Peter and Paul Snowden and earned a mere $73,000 prize money from nine starts.

Glenall, however, has collected almost $95,000 from four starts including the Group One Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill in which he finished fourth.

“I’d say he’s the best horse we’ve bred,” Ramsey said.

He’s raced on a soft track or worse since winning his maiden at Canterbury in August.

“He’s a Group One horse. You’ll see a really good horse when you see him on top of the groun,” Ramsey said.

Even trainer Les Bridge sees the three-year-old’s potential, comparing him to 1983 Golden Slipper winner Sir Dapper.

“He thinks he’s the best horse he’s ever had,” Ramsey said.

“So we’ve got something to look forward to.”

Glenall is second favourite in the Group Two Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) at $5 with WilliamHill behind the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Global Glamour at $3.80.

“They won’t beat him – don’t worry about that – when he’s on top of the ground,” Ramsey said.
