A bigger and stronger Amorino is set to continue where he left off when he returns to racing at Flemington.

Trainer Archie Alexander has the six-year-old ready to launch his spring campaign in Saturday’s Group Two Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m).

A winner of three of his past four starts in black type races at 1400m, Amorino spent the winter months in Queensland’s warmer climate.

The son of Snitzel showed he was ready for the good spring with a Cranbourne trial win under Craig Williams over 990m on August 21.

Williams rode Amorino to victory in his three black type wins in the autumn, the most recent the Listed Anniversary Vase (1400m).

“He’s very well and had a good spell,” Alexander said.

“He went to Queensland for a spell. He had six weeks up there and has come back a bit bigger and a bit stronger.

“Craig’s very happy with him and fingers crossed he can have a good spring.”

After starting his career in Sydney with Gerald Ryan who trained him to two wins, Amorino headed to Perth where his owner Elio Galante lives.

He was trained by Grant Williams to three wins at Listed level.

Amorino was transferred to Alexander’s Ballarat stable towards the end of last year, running a first-up seventh in the Standish Handicap at Flemington on New Year’s day.

The now six-year-old won a Group Three race at Flemington on March 7 before going on to record two Listed victories.

“It would be difficult to have a better spring than autumn because he did so well, but I’m sure there’s a good race in him during the spring,” Alexander said.
