In-form gelding Flamboyer will get another chance to prove he can run a strong 1600 metres in the Listed Tattersall’s Mile at Doomben.

Flamboyer has won a Class 6 race and the Listed Glasshouse Sprint, both at 1400m, since he returned from a spell.

He has failed twice at 1600m and has not attempted the metric mile since July 2014 when well beaten in a restricted class race over the distance at Doomben.

However, trainer Kelly Doughty believes Flamboyer is a stronger horse now and deserves his chance in Saturday’s Listed race.

“I have been keen to get him out to 1600 metres and it might as well be now,” Doughty said.

“He has been strong at the finish of his two recent runs and if the tracks stay wet it won’t hurt him.

“He has been able to roll along on the pace in his races and that should be the case again on Saturday.”

Flamboyer was one of 15 entries taken on Monday for the Mile with Victorian Akavoroun heading the ratings.

The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding finished second to Harada Bay in an Open Handicap over 1630 metres at Doomben on July 9, edging Lauterbrunnen out of the runner-up position.

Both Harada Bay and Lauterbrunnen are among the nominations for the Tatt’s Mile.

Doughty and her husband Gary continue to have a good run with horses they have bred including Flambe, a winner at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

“Flambe is Flamboyer’s little half-sister and we have high hopes for her,” she said.

“Flamboyer is by Clang and Flambe is by Jet Spur and both are out of the Zeditave mare Zedatier who is proving a good producer.”

The Kris Lees-trained Singing has been nominated for the Tatt’s Mile as well as a 1900m race at Canterbury.

The former German horse, second to subsequent Melbourne Cup winnner Protectionist in a Group Two race at Hamburg in 2014, will be making his Australian debut.
