Gala Moshea has created everlasting memories for trainer Brett Conlon and apprentice Quayde Krogh with her win at Rosehill.

The mare put an end to what has been a lean season for Cranbourne trainer Conlon who brought her to Sydney on a whim while Krogh celebrated his first metropolitan win since joining the Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott stable from Queensland.

“She is my first winner this season,” Conlon said.

“I’ve only got four in work and she has sent me half crazy with little things going wrong.

“Another Cranbourne trainer was talking about bringing a horse up here and I though I would bring her because she’s good on wet tracks but had no idea who could ride her.”

Conlon said he had watched videos of Krogh’s rides and been impressed and was also attracted to him because he rides light, taking 3kg off Gala Moshea’s 53kg in the benchmark 80 1100m sprint for fillies and mares.

Originally from Rockhampton, 26-year-old Krogh moved to Chris Munce in Brisbane before seizing the opportunity to come to Sydney.

“This is my first Sydney winner,” Krogh said.

“I’m from north Queensland and went to Brisbane to be with Chris who organised for me to come down here while the winter carnival was on so I thought I would give it a try.

“The mare relaxed well and travelled well on the soft ground.”

Gala Moshea, who was specked from $15 to $11, beat Aimalac Millie ($10) by a neck with race leader Brook Magic ($2.30 fav) weakening to finish another 1-1/2 lengths third.
