Group Three placegetter King’s Troop is one of five horses added to the 1000m-race for three-year-olds at Randwick bringing the entries up to nine.

Trainer Gerald Ryan already had two of the four original nominations, Deploy and Shacked Up, and put King’s Troop in Saturday’s race.

“When I saw the nominations I told (owner) John Messara we should put King’s Troop in,” Ryan said.

“He was going to have a barrier trial anyway and is fit and well so he might as well race.”

King’s Troop, second to subsequent Group One winner Japonisme in the San Domenico Stakes in the spring, ran eighth in the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas won by Husson Eagle last Saturday week.

Enjoyable and Sooboog were the other two original entries with Sette Bello, Prado Red, Tay Tay Taylor and Top Score added on Monday afternoon.

The Ryan-trained Red Excitement is the top rated of the eight entries in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1400m).

The six-year-old will be having his first start since he was unplaced in the Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m) on December 12.

“He has been freshened up and has been working really well,” Ryan said.

“His work this morning (Monday) was really pleasing so I’m hoping he can bounce back.”

Godolphin trainer John O’Shea has entered three runners – Barbed, Medcaut and Sarajevo.

Medcaut is a last-start winner at Randwick, beating Monton and subsequent Gosford Gold Cup winner Destiny’s Kiss over 1600 metres.

Both Sarajevo and Barbed have had their most recent starts in Melbourne.

Barbed was unplaced in the Standish Handicap on New Year’s Day while Sarajevo ran in Saturday’s Chester Manifold Stakes, both at Flemington.

Premier trainer Chris Waller has nominated the consistent You’ll Never who has not raced since August.

Three of You’ll Never’s seven wins have been over 1400 metres.
