Explosive Quality ($8.50 Sportsbet) lived up to her name when she burst through in a pressurised finish, putting her head in front when it mattered most to claim her third win from only ten starts. She also has five placings to her credit.
There were four horses spread across the track inside the final 100m and, just when it looked like Ashzaya ($11), who had led all of the way down the straight, was going to prevail, Explosive quality lunged and got the decision by a narrow 0.10 lengths
The Gillian Heinrich trained runner had jumped in the leading line before going back to third on the fence. Michael Cahill switched her three wide on straightening … where the chase was really on!
Ashzaya and Oh Five Glory ($5) led the cavalry charge with Explosive Quality and Iamican ($14) joining in a spirited four-way battle which ultimately would see less than half-a-length cover these four horses across the line.
In the end Michael Cahill’s timing and judgement was inch perfect.
“She really knuckled down to the task,” said Cahill.
“it was pleasing to see her win first up. She stuck her head out at the right time. She’s good isn’t she!
“I think she is going to be a miler and she might even get further in time.”
