A long term plan to secure a stud career for Dubawi Dream begins when he runs in his first stakes race at Doomben.

Trainer Steve O’Dea has elected to run Dubawi Dream in Saturday’s Listed Tattersall’s Mile (1640m) instead of a restricted 1640m race.

Dubawi Dream did his original racing for Hawkesbury trainer Scott Singleton and has been in good form since joining O’Dea at Eagle Farm earlier this year.

In four runs for O’Dea, Dubawi Dream has recorded two wins, a second and a handy last-start fourth.

“The owners are keen for him to tackle a black-type race. He is a very well bred Dubawi horse and if he can get some black type he might get a go as a stallion,” O’Dea said.

“This isn’t the strongest stakes race of the year. The class performer Kingdoms didn’t accept and most of the field is eligible for restricted races.”

Dubawi Dream is by Darley stallion Dubawi, the sire of Stradbroke Handicap winner Srikandi.

O’Dea is hoping for some scratchings to help Dubawi Dream’s stablemate, three-year-old Beau Jet, in the Global Transport Insurance Hcp (1200m).

“He has drawn barrier 14 but hopefully a few will come out. He does get back in his races but you don’t want to go too far back,” he said.

“There does appear to be a stack of pace and that should suit us.”

Meanwhile, promising galloper Feltre will dodge the Tattersall’s Mile and tackle the Des Lambart Memorial Class 6 (1640m).

Feltre has won five of his 11 starts and was most impressive scoring at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m two weeks ago.

Stable spokesman John Andrews said trainer Lyn Tipper was keen to test Feltre at 1600m.

“This race on Saturday looks ideal for him and we should learn if he can run a strong 1600 metres,” he said.
