Former Sydney galloper Didntcostalot made a mockery of his tag as a 1000-metre specialist with a runaway win at Doomben on Saturday.
Sent out favourite at $2.50, Didntcostalot made it two wins from three starts in Brisbane when he beat stablemate Best Of The Rest by 1-1/4 lengths in the PFD Foods Handicap (1200m).
The gelding had started at 1200m on five previous occasions for one win in a Gosford restricted-class race.
Trainer Tony Gollan said the secret to Didntcostalot’s success had been to adopt tactics that had been employed with stablemate Rocket To Glory.
was had been to take a leaf out of another of his horses Rocket To Glory’s play book.
“Like Rocket To Glory, Didntcostalot likes to bowl along and we have been letting him run the opposition into the ground,” Gollan said.
Saluter was 1 1/4 lengths third behind Best Of The Rest and trainer Rob Heathcote said the gelding would be better for the run.
