Destiny’s Kiss is a proven wet track horse but his trainer is not dismissing his chances of another stakes win on a firm surface.

Joe Pride was rapt with the eight-year-old’s last-start sixth in the Summer Cup when he made ground late to finish 4-1/2 lengths from the winner Red Excitement.

Before the Summer Cup (2000m) Destiny’s Kiss won the Christmas Cup on heavy ground but for Pride the key is not so much the weather but the step back up to 2400 metres in Monday’s Listed Tattersall’s Club Cup at Randwick.

“His run the other day on a dry track was super,” Pride said.

“Yes he is good in the wet and I’m hoping for a bit of rain but I couldn’t be happier with him and I can’t see why he won’t gp well.”

A field of just six has been declared for the staying test with Iggi Pop and Thewayweare the $3.20 equal favourites.

Destiny’s Kiss is next at $4.60 as he chases his fourth win over the distance.

He finished third in the Tatt’s Club Cup three years ago when ridden by Peter Robl who is now the trainer of Iggi Pop.

The 2014 race was won by Permit, trained by Chris Waller who has two entries as he aims for a fifth successive win.

Both Waller’s runners – Index Link and Beyond Thankful – are also veterans and the trainer admits the mat be nearing the end of stakes racing.

“It’s D-Day for Index Linked,” Waller said.

“He’s been a very good horse for us but unfortunately he’s not as competitive as he once was.

“But there will be no excuses for him. He’s rock-hard fit and he’s been on this stage before and performed well and we’re hoping that can happen again.

Both Index Linked and Beyond Thankful finished wll behind Destiny’s Kiss in the Christmas Cup.

“I don’t think Beyond Thankful stays 2400 metres but he’s a chance on a good track to get that distance,” Waller said.

“He is a wet tracker at 2000 metres. On a good track he can get a bit further with his class. He’s won a Newcastle Cup but he was flying then.

It is a bit like it is with Index Linked. He’s got to bring that form to the race.”
