Chautauqua won’t contest Saturday’s Group 1 Oakleigh Plate after the decision was made on Wednesday morning not to accept entry into the Caulfield feature.
Speaking yesterday, co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said the decision on whether to run would be left to the last minute.
“The bottom line is there is a float booked for Thursday night to come to Melbourne,” Hawkes told After The Last on Tuesday.
“We’re going to decide in the morning whether to accept or not, and make the decision at the last minute.”
With connections now deciding not to run on Saturday, the three-time TJ Smith Stakes winner is now likely to contest the Group One Canterbury Stakes (1300m) on March 3 at Randwick.
