After a glittering debut campaign, Daysee Doom has failed to recapture the form which rendered her unbeaten and heading towards a stakes race.

Trainer Ron Quinton believes stretching her to 1400 metres in Saturday’s Alconex Fire Handicap at Randwick may hold the key to getting her back to the winner’s circle.

Quinton said jockey Sam Clipperton, who is currently plying his trade in Hong Kong, was sure Daysee Doom would get further after winning twice on her at 1100m.

“I know her only three wins have been at 1100 metres,” Quinton

“But we’re pretty confident she’ll handle the 1400 OK because Sam always reckoned that she would.”

Daysee Doom was unbeaten after her debut campaign.

She easily won a maiden at Hawkesbury in March, before winning in midweek grade and successfully graduating to Saturday company by May.

Quinton said those wins had made her difficult to place as she raced with heavier weights against better horses in her two starts this preparation.

Daysee Doom was fifth at Randwick on September 17 and fourth at Canterbury on October 5.

“She’s had two runs back from a spell, she’s fit and I think the bit slower tempo in the 1400m just might suit her,” Quinton said.

“They’ve just been leaving her a little bit flat-footed but she’s been asked to carry plenty of weight each time as well.”

Daysee Doom will carry 59kg after apprentice Andrew Adkins’ 2kg claim.

Adkins, who is indentured to Quinton, will also ride I Am Impressed for the stable in the Schweppes Handicap (1400m).

The five-year-old gelding returned to racing after more than 14 months on the sidelines to finish seventh at Kembla Grange.

“You might have thought his run at Kembla was a bit disappointing but he got back and he’d been off the scene a long time,” Quinton said.

“The way the race was run he was never going to be able to make ground from where he was.

“He’s doing everything right at home and he’s working nicely.”

I Am Impressed is set to meet Group One-placegetter Man Of Choice and the Joe Pride-trained Wine ‘N’ Dine who is resuming after a short break.
