Warwick Farm trained David Pfieffer is confident his stable pin up horse I Am Excited can continue her winning ways this Saturday at Flemington and then take on the big boys and girls a week later in the Group l VRC Sprint Classic (1200m).
Before she takes on the likes of Redzel and Pierata, the mare will run on Saturday down the Flemington straight in the Begonia Belle (1100m) in preference over the TAB Multiplier (1200m) with the trainer saying her performance will determine whether she presses on to Group l company.
“She has done very well since her Gilgai win,” Pfieffer told Justhorseracing.
“She came back home after the win and spent a couple of days in the paddock before heading back down to Melbourne.
“She seems to be thriving in Melbourne and her jump out the other morning was very impressive I thought, so I couldn’t be happier with her leading into Saturday.
“Her effort on the weekend will determine if she warrants a start a week later but I’m confident she’ll run well.”
The mare was once regarded as a bit of a tease but in 2018 she has really put it together, winning a couple of Listed races during the Sydney Autumn and of course last start won the Group ll Gilgai (1200m). Pfieffer puts that down to patience and maturity.
“She has always shown plenty since day one,” He said.
“She’s just needed time to furnish out and build into a proper horse, and she’s done that this year, as evidenced by the results.”
Kerrin McEvoy has been booked to ride the mare on Saturday.
