Trainer David Hayes was forced to release his horses from their paddocks due to bushfires that closed in on his Euroa property late yesterday afternoon.
Luckily, Hayes said staff were gathered at the Lindsay Park property for a Christmas party and plenty a hand was lent in saving their equine buddies.
“We were able to protect the horses but it was a bit hairy for a bit,” Hayes said.
“We let the horses out through gates and let them run free for a while, they went into herd mentality so they were fine, to be honest they were a bit more sensible about it than some of the people.
“Once the fire had passed we had to round them all up until about 2 o’clock last night.”
No staff or horses were hurt.
