Jade Darose is hoping history can repeat when Parwan Prince runs in a sprint race at Flemington

Dual-licence holder Jade Darose is hoping history can repeat when Parwan Prince runs in a sprint race at Flemington.

Parwan Prince, who runs in the Jim Beam Hill Plate on Saturday, provided Darose with her first Flemington win as both a jockey and trainer when successful in the corresponding race last year.

The feat was history-making because Darose became the first jockey to win aboard their own horse at Flemington.

She said that was her proudest moment in racing.

“I had never ridden a winner at Flemington before and to do it on your own horse was something special,” she said.

Parwan Prince remains the only horse Darose has in training ,saying the rising nine-year-old is high maintenance and needs special attention.

But having only one horse allows Darose the opportunity to ride outside work.

One of those horses is the Mick Bell-trained Jungle Edge who was nominated for Saturday’s race but instead runs in the Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes at Randwick.

Darose won on Jungle Edge at Caulfield in February but has watched from the sidelines lately as the gelding raced interstate.

Rules mean Darose either had to ride Parwan Prince or watch the race trackside if Jungle Edge had accepted to run at Flemington.

“That was going to be a bit of a conflict as I don’t get to ride too many good horses and then I’ve got to two in one race,” Darose said.

“So I was pretty happy when Mick decided to head to Sydney, that way I can’t be shattered if he wins and I’m not on him.”

Parwan Prince scored first-up last year and resumes again on Saturday.

Darose said it was coincidence that Parwan Prince lines up in the same race.

“He came into work roughly the same time and this race has popped up because there’s not many options again,” Darose said.

“There is not a lot of benchmark 78 races over 1000 metres, so this is where we’ve ended up.

“I’m always suspect about him first-up with only one trial under the belt, but he seems to race really well fresh and that’s what he did last time.

“So I’ve followed a similar preparation to last year and hopefully it pays off.”
