Gary Moore is confident Classic Uniform is poised to claim his first win since February when he tackles the Listed Premier’s Cup at Rosehill.
The five-year-old gelding’s previous win in the Listed Parramatta Cup at Rosehill was over 1900 metres and he steps up to the same trip five starts into this preparation on Saturday.
“This could be his race, at last,” Moore said.
Classic Uniform looked set to win the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) two starts ago but the Kim Waugh-trained Shiraz got up by half a head at Rosehill on July 29.
He was then a more distant runner-up to the well-performed Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Arbeitsam on the same track over 1800m on August 12.
“He was set (to win) two runs ago and got beat, and then he got beaten by a very good horse of Gai’s,” Moore said.
“He’s holding his form. He looks well. He worked well on the course proper (on Tuesday) at Rosehill.”
A month ago Moore nominated the Premier’s Cup as Classic Uniform’s primary goal, but his past two runs have prompted a rethink.
The Group Three Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on September 9 will be on the agenda providing Classic Uniform meets expectations this weekend.
After looking at the Premier’s Cup entries ahead of Wednesday’s acceptances, Moore believes Classic Uniform is the one to beat.
“Classic Uniform has been a model of consistency carrying the big weights. I think he’s probably the horse they have to beat,” he said.
If veteran Destiny’s Kiss is not among the acceptances, Classic Uniform will be the 59kg topweight, going up form 56.5kg.
“If Destiny’s Kiss runs that should be a big advantage,” Moore said.
