Warwick Farm will host Sydney’s first two-year-old barrier trial of the season on Monday with premier trainer Chris Waller to have all four of the juveniles in action.
An 800m heat for two-year-old colts and geldings has been scheduled for the trial session with Waller the only trainer entering runners.
Waller has five entries but said Lonhro colt Fundido would not be taking his place.
The Rosehill trainer has about 40 two-year-olds on the books and said juvenile racing would be a focus for him this season.
“We’ll be focusing on two-year-old racing this year and try to get them firing,” Waller said.
“And that will make us more powerful for a (shot at the) premiership again.”
With the first trial taking place, the countdown to the first two-year-old races of the Sydney season begins.
The Listed Gimcrack Stakes for fillies and Listed Breeders Plate for colts and geldings are on October 1.
“We’re trying to make sure they are forward and ready to rock and roll,” Waller said.
“I’m not saying they are the standouts (of his two-year-olds) but they are ready to trial so they are trialling.”
Waller said he would also have some youngsters trialling at Rosehill next week.
Randwick’s official two-year-old barrier trial session is scheduled for September 19.
